MEZCOPH Honors Campesinos Sin Fronteras with Inaugural Excellence Award

Somerton, AZ – The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) is proud to announce that Campesinos Sin Fronteras (CSF) has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Jill de Zapien Excellence in Community Engaged Scholarship & Practice Award.

This prestigious award, named in honor of MEZCOPH’s first Associate Dean for Community Engagement, recognizes outstanding community partners who embody the college’s commitment to deep and impactful collaborations with communities. CSF’s exceptional work, leadership, and dedication to improving the health and well-being of farmworker communities align perfectly with this vision.

“Under your leadership, CSF has consistently elevated the quality of life of farmworkers and their families through significant and measurable initiatives. Your organization’s remarkable achievements, such as the Farmworker Service Fair (Dia del Campesino), the Border Health Service-Learning course, and your innovative work in participatory evaluation and teen pregnancy prevention, underscore the extraordinary value of our partnership. The recent NIH ComPASS Award further highlights your dedication to addressing systemic challenges and advancing health equity for the farmworker community in Yuma County.” stated Dean Iman Hakim in a letter sent to CSF.

CSF will was formally presented with the award at the MEZCOPH Fall Retreat on Monday, December 16, 2024.

CSF  and MEZCOPH look forward to continuing their partnership and working together to address critical public health challenges in the region.
